Hungary Mandates E-Invoicing for Energy Sector Starting 2025
From January 1, 2025, Hungary will implement mandatory electronic invoicing for electricity and natural gas trading businesses. The regulation targets entities such as electricity traders, distributors, transmission system operators, and natural gas providers, making e-invoicing a requirement for business-to-business transactions.
The new rules, set out in Government Decree No. 273/2007, adopt a flexible approach to compliance. Companies are not restricted to a specific e-invoicing format or exchange method, allowing them to select any system recognized by the Hungarian Tax Authority. This adaptability ensures businesses can integrate electronic invoicing into their existing workflows with minimal disruption.
By introducing this mandate, Hungary takes a significant step toward digitizing the energy sector, promoting streamlined processes, and ensuring compliance while giving businesses the freedom to choose suitable technological solutions.
